A lawsuit has been filed in federal court which claims four male prison guards beat and physically disabled a female inmate. They beat the inmate so bad it broke her neck and left her paralyzed from the neck down. The incident happened at the Lowell Correctional Institution in Marion County Florida. Authorities are not releasing the names of the guards, but they claim the inmate refused to clean a toilet. That is how the incident began, the inmate claimed she could not clean the toilet due to hip issues. However the guards were not buying it, and decided to teach her a lesson. The inmate had a history of physical and mental issues that the prison guards were aware of at the time of the beating. The inmate was scheduled to be released in 2021.
A spokesman from the Florida Department of Corrections refused to comment stating the agency will not comment on pending litigation, and that no lawsuit has formally been served. The inmates in question have managed to keep their jobs, they are just not allowed to work directly with inmates.
